In previous articles I mentioned that the Pixhawk project is a open hardware project is a derivative project from the two PX4 modules consolidated in just one board: the Pixhawk.

Also stated that there are chinese clones on the market, and that such clones are illegal. Some are very similar to the original Pixhawk, others are not so. All of them are dubious quality.

I did mention that the Pixhawk manufactured by 3DR isn’t available for some countries in Latin America, including Brazil. Instead of buying the original Pixhawk the alternative that can be ordered is the Hobby King’s HP Pilot 32. This board is based on the same Pixhawk project manufactured by Hobbyking, following the same Pixhawk connectors positioning pattern assembled by 3DR. The only difference is the casing. A totally legal and recommended project endorsed by Pixhawk team.

Regarding the open hardware project, some chineses alternatives started to arrive on the market (I’m not referring to the clone ones!) with totally modified layouts, offering some interesting alternatives since the original Pixhawk has a fairly large size. There are also some quite bizarre alternatives.

WARNING: I am not recommending (although it is spreading) the acquisition of the itens bellow because I have not tried any of them.

Pixfalcon

A flight controller based on the open hardware design of Pixhawk, fully compatible with the Pixhawk firmware, however, reduced in size. Maybe can be interesting to mini drones projects..

Pixhawk Lite

Another hardware reduction project with pretensions to take Pixhawk to the world of minis 250. This has a very affordable price..

Pixhack

Another chinese modification of the Pixhawk, but with the connectors disposed on the side. The most attractive feature on this FC is thatthe IMU is mounted on a separated anti vibration base disposed over very soft rubbers. Besides that there’s a very interesting copper plate over the IMU against EMI. .

Pixmini

Another chinese Pixhawk version with reduced in size. Available at aliexpress.com. Maybe this project is interesting for mini drones. .

Pixraptor

Another Pixhawk chinese version with reduced size and side disposition of the connectors. .

Pix4Lite
